Troubleshooting

File Upload Issues

File upload fails or times out

Symptoms:

  • • Upload progress stalls
  • • Error message appears after upload
  • • Browser becomes unresponsive

Solutions:

  • • Check file size - very large files (>1GB) may take longer to process
  • • Ensure stable internet connection
  • • Try refreshing the page and uploading again
  • • If using a slow connection, wait for the upload to complete before navigating away

"Unsupported file format" error

Symptoms:

  • • Error message after selecting a file
  • • File rejected immediately

Solutions:

  • • Verify file extension is .alp or .pcap
  • • Ensure the file is not corrupted or truncated
  • • Check that the PCAP contains STLTP or IP multicast data (not raw Ethernet captures)
  • • Try opening the file in Wireshark to verify it's valid

"No ALP packets found"

Symptoms:

  • • File uploads successfully but shows no data
  • • Empty overview with zero packets

Solutions:

  • • Verify the file contains valid ALP-encapsulated data
  • • For PCAP files, ensure it's STLTP or direct multicast format
  • • The capture may be empty or contain only non-ALP traffic
  • • Check if the file is from a valid ATSC 3.0 source

Display & Navigation Issues

Tabs are empty or not loading

Symptoms:

  • • Tab content shows "Loading..." indefinitely
  • • Blank tab after clicking

Solutions:

  • • Wait for file processing to complete (check progress indicator)
  • • Refresh the page and re-upload the file
  • • Clear browser cache and try again
  • • Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge recommended)

Physical Layer tab shows "Upload an STLTP PCAP file"

Symptoms:

  • • Physical Layer tab appears empty
  • • Message asking for STLTP file

Cause:

This is expected behavior. Physical layer data is only available in STLTP PCAP captures, not raw ALP files.

Solution:

If you need physical layer analysis, use an STLTP PCAP capture from your broadcast chain.

File browser sidebar is empty

Symptoms:

  • • No folders or files shown in left sidebar
  • • Cannot browse extracted content

Solutions:

  • • Ensure file processing completed successfully
  • • Check if any services were discovered (see Overview tab)
  • • The capture may contain no extractable content
  • • Refresh the page and re-upload

Charts or visualizations not rendering

Symptoms:

  • • Empty chart areas
  • • Missing graphs or diagrams

Solutions:

  • • Ensure JavaScript is enabled in your browser
  • • Disable browser extensions that may block scripts
  • • Try a different browser
  • • Check browser console for errors (F12 > Console)

Media Playback Issues

Video won't play in browser

Symptoms:

  • • Black video player
  • • "Format not supported" error
  • • Audio plays but no video

Causes:

  • • HEVC/H.265 codec not supported by browser
  • • Browser codec limitations

Solutions:

  • • Download the file and play in VLC, MPV, or another desktop player
  • • Try a different browser (Safari on macOS has better HEVC support)
  • • Install HEVC codec extensions if available for your browser
  • • Check if the video is DRM-protected (🔒 indicator)

Audio won't play

Symptoms:

  • • Silent audio player
  • • Audio player shows error

Solutions:

  • • AC-4 audio may not be supported in all browsers
  • • Download the audio file and play in VLC
  • • Check if content is DRM-protected

"Incomplete Video" warning appears

Symptoms:

  • • Yellow warning banner on video
  • • Video plays partially or not at all

Cause:

The initialization segment (init.mp4) was missing from the capture.

Solutions:

  • • This indicates an incomplete capture
  • • The video may still play partially
  • • Re-capture with a longer duration to ensure init segments are included

DRM-protected content won't play

Symptoms:

  • • 🔒 icon on media files
  • • Playback fails or shows encrypted frames

Cause:

Content is encrypted and requires license server keys for decryption.

Solution:

The inspector cannot decrypt DRM-protected content. You can:

  • • View all metadata and signaling information
  • • See DRM scheme and Key IDs in Services tab
  • • Contact your content provider for decryption keys

Service & Signaling Issues

Services show "No SLS" or red status

Symptoms:

  • • Service cards show error status
  • • "Missing SLS" or "Missing MPD" warnings

Causes:

  • • Incomplete capture
  • • Service wasn't actively broadcasting
  • • SLS signaling not included in capture window

Solutions:

  • • Capture for a longer duration (SLS updates periodically)
  • • Verify the service was active during capture
  • • Check if this is an ESG or special service type

Missing services (fewer than expected)

Symptoms:

  • • Not all broadcast services appear
  • • Service count lower than expected

Solutions:

  • • Ensure capture duration was long enough to receive SLT updates
  • • LLS tables are broadcast periodically - short captures may miss some
  • • Check the Multicast Destinations table for all IP flows

ROUTE sessions show "unknown" type

Symptoms:

  • • Sessions listed without video/audio/SLS labels
  • • Type column shows "unknown"

Cause:

The session type couldn't be determined from the signaling.

Solutions:

  • • This may indicate incomplete SLS signaling
  • • Check if S-TSID or MPD documents were extracted
  • • The content type may be non-standard

Performance Issues

Page is slow or unresponsive

Symptoms:

  • • UI laggy when scrolling
  • • Delayed response to clicks
  • • Browser memory warnings

Solutions:

  • • Close other browser tabs to free memory
  • • For very large captures, analysis takes more time
  • • Collapse expanded sections you're not using
  • • Try a browser with better performance (Chrome recommended)

Processing takes too long

Symptoms:

  • • Progress indicator stuck
  • • "Processing..." shown for extended time

Solutions:

  • • Large files take longer - wait for completion
  • • Files over 500MB may take several minutes
  • • Refresh and retry if stuck for more than 10 minutes
  • • Try with a smaller test file first

Browser Compatibility
